Kirk Haworth, a plant-based chef from Blackburn, England, won the "Champion of Champions" title on Great British Menu. It happened on 22nd March 2024. This show is popular on BBC. Top British chefs compete on it. They aim to cook one course for a four-course banquet. Kirk made history on the show. He's the only plant-based chef to reach the final and win the title.
The winning dessert had sour cherries from Europe on a sponge ring with cacao gateau, cherry gel, vanilla caramel sauce, and Australian macadamias.
In 2016, Haworth changed to plant-based food due to Lyme disease. He found this diet eased his symptoms.
He expressed, "When they called my name, it felt incredible. Though overwhelming, I'm grateful for the support. Emails flooded, but I appreciate it. The competition took a toll mentally, physically, and emotionally. Social media poured with beautiful messages. Winning made many cry tears of joy. The show's tough, especially as a plant-based chef. Breaking records proves anything's possible."
Haworth plans to open a restaurant named Plates in London in June 2024. He may feature dishes from his BBC Two show.
