All restaurants should have at least 50% plant-based menu, says vegan charity

Viva! founder Juliet Gellatley wants all restaurants to include more plant-based options on their menus. She believes this change will help reduce carbon footprints for both businesses and customers. By making at least half of their menu plant-based, restaurants can play a role in addressing environmental concerns.

The campaign, called 50by25, aims to encourage restaurants to embrace plant-based menus by 2025. Gellatley stresses the importance of acting swiftly in light of current environmental and health challenges.

According to Viva!, adopting plant-based options can significantly cut down emissions, land use, and water consumption. Some restaurant chains, like Wagamama and Wahaca, have already taken steps in this direction, setting an example for others.

Gellatley acknowledges the increasing availability of vegan options in restaurants and supermarkets. She sees this as a positive development and urges more companies to join in, emphasizing the positive impact such changes can have.

Despite the obstacles, Gellatley remains optimistic about the future. She believes that the growing awareness and acceptance of veganism indicate a shift towards more sustainable dietary choices.
